Leadership

American DG Energy Inc. was founded and is managed and directed by individuals with extensive experience in all aspects of energy supply and utilization. Our Strategic Contributor and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. George N. Hatsopoulos and Dr. John N. Hatsopoulos, respectively, were co-founders of Thermo Electron Corporation which is now Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE:TMO).

Dr. John N. Hatsopoulos - Co-Chief Executive Officer

John Hatsopoulos has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Company since its inception in 2000. He is also Co-Chief Executive Officer of Tecogen Inc., a leading manufacturer of natural gas, engine driven commercial and industrial cooling and cogeneration systems. Dr. Hatsopoulos was the President, Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board of Thermo Electron Corporation which is now Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE:TMO). John Hatsopoulos innovated and implemented numerous financial strategies that became the focus of worldwide interest. His spinout strategy resulted in 24 public companies and Thermo Electron and its subsidiaries were able to raise close to $5 billion of capital. Mr. Hatsopoulos graduated from Athens College in Athens, Greece. He holds a B.S. in history and mathematics from Northeastern University, together with Honorary Doctorates in Business Administration from Boston College and Northeastern University.

Benjamin Locke

Benjamin Locke is Co-Chief Executive Officer of American DG Energy. He is also Co-Chief Executive Officer of Tecogen.  Prior to joining American DG Energy, Mr. Locke served as the General Manager for Tecogen and was instrumental in increased sales, new business development and overall execution of corporate growth strategy.  Prior to joining Tecogen, Mr. Locke held the position of Director of Business Development at Metabolix and was responsible for partnerships, joint ventures and acquisitions in the clean energy arena. Mr. Locke has a B.S. in Physics from the University of Massachusetts, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University, and an MBA in Corporate Finance from Boston University.

 

Bonnie
Bonnie Brown

Bonnie Brown is Chief Financial Officer of American DG Energy. She is also Chief Financial Officer of EuroSite Power.  Prior to joining American DG Energy, Ms. Brown served as the Chief Financial Officer for Tecogen and was instrumental in successfully taking Tecogen public. Ms. Brown is a senior level executive with over 20 years of hands-on experience in finance, management, tax and business leadership.  She earned a B.S. in Accountancy from Bentley College, a M.S. in Computer Information Systems from Boston University, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Charles T. Maxwell - Chairman

Charles T. Maxwell has been our Chairman of the Board since April 2, 2012; He has been a member of our Board since 2001.  He is a widely recognized expert in the energy sector, with over 40 years of experience with a major oil company and two investment firms.  He was Senior Energy Analyst with Weeden & Co. of Greenwich, Connecticut, where he advised financial institutions on where returns are likely to be highest in the oil and gas industry and which companies will achieve them.  Since the early 1980’s, he has been an active member of an Oxford-based organization comprised of present or past OPEC-country oil ministers and other oil industry executives from 30 countries who meet twice annually to analyze trends in global energy markets.  He is a member of the board of directors of Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) and Tecogen Inc., an affiliate of the Company.  Mr. Maxwell graduated cum laude in political science from Princeton University as a Jadwin Scholar and holds a B.A. from Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar in Middle East languages and history.

John Hatsopoulos has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Company since its inception in 2000. Dr. Hatsopoulos graduated from Athens College in Athens, Greece. He holds a B.S. in history and mathematics from Northeastern University, together with Honorary Doctorates in Business Administration from Boston College and Northeastern University. He served on the board of directors of the American Stock Exchange from 1994 through 2000 and the AMEX Nominating Committee from 1990 to 1994. In addition, he is a former “Member of the Corporation” for Northeastern University.

Deanna M. Petersen

Deanna M. Petersen has been a member of our Board of Directors since 2010.  She was Vice President of Business Development for Shire Human Genetic Therapies (NASDAQ: SHPGY), where she initiated and managed partnering, licensing and merger and acquisition activities worldwide.  Previously, Mrs. Petersen was Vice President of Business Development for Agenus Inc. (NASDAQ: AGEN) and Coley Pharmaceutical Group, Inc.  Mrs. Petersen is Co-Chair of the Business Development Committee for the Massachusetts Biotechnology Association and previously the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, Boston Chapter.  Ms. Petersen holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Iowa.

Christine M. Klaskin

Christine M. Klaskin, is the Vice President, Finance of Agenus Inc., a biotechnology company developing and commercializing technologies to treat cancers and infectious diseases, since 2006.  Ms. Klaskin joined Agenus Inc. in 2000 and served in various finance positions. From 1987 to 1996, she was audit manager of Arthur Andersen LLP. Ms. Klaskin received a Bachelor of Accountancy from The George Washington University.

John Rowe
John Rowe

Rowe Rowe is Chairman Emeritus of Exelon Corporation, a utility holding company which he has led since its formation in 2000.  Mr. Rowe retired as Chief Executive Officer of Exelon in March 2012. Exelon Corporation is the nation's leading competitive energy provider, with approximately $23.5 billion in annual revenues. Previous roles include chief executive officer positions at New England Electric Systems and Central Maine Power Company.  Mr. Rowe served as general counsel of Consolidated Railroad and was a partner in the law firm of Isham, Lincoln and Beale.

Joan Giacinti

Mr. Giacinti is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sofratesa Group with headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  The group's activities in Latin America include the design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of high-tech infrastructure projects in transportation such as airports, aeronautics, subway and telecommunications.  Sofratesa recently participated in the building and operation of the first subway lines in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Panama City, Panama.  The group has also expanded into the production of feature films and media in France and Latin America.  Mr. Giacinti is a founder of Aerodom, a concessionaire chosen by the Dominican government to develop, operate and manage airports in the Dominican Republic, which in 2008 was acquired by Advent International.

Dr. Elias Samaras

Dr. Elias Samaras is the Chief Executive Officer of Eurosite Power Inc., a subsidiary of American DG Energy. He is also the founder, president and managing director of Digital Security Technologies S.A.  He was also the founder and president of Plefsis Information Systems S.A. and City Messengers. Dr. Samaras holds a Master of Science degree from MIT, a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University in New York, where he was also a professor for several years, and an OPM from Harvard Business School.

George Hatsopoulos
Dr. George N. Hatsopoulos

George N. Hatsopoulos was the Chairman of the Board since the organization of the Company in July 2001 until April 2, 2012, and current technical advisor.  He is the founder and CEO of Pharos, LLC, an organization devoted to the creation of leading edge business ventures, and since 2000 he has been a director of Tecogen Inc., an affiliate of the Company, and since 2009 he has been a director of Ilios Inc., an affiliate of the Company.  He is the founder and Chairman emeritus of Thermo Electron Corporation, which is now Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE: TMO), and served as Chairman and CEO since its founding in 1956 until his retirement from those positions in 1999.  Dr. Hatsopoulos has served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, including a term as Chairman.  He was a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission Advisory Committee on Capital Formation and Regulatory Process, the Advisory Committee of the U.S. Export-Import Bank, and the boards of various corporations and institutions.  Dr. Hatsopoulos is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and other scientific and technical organizations. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards in engineering, science, industry and academics, has authored over 60 articles in professional journals, and is the principal author of textbooks on thermodynamics and thermionic energy conversion.  Dr. Hatsopoulos has been a faculty member and senior lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, and continues his association with the Institute as a Life Member of the Corporation.  Dr. Hatsopoulos holds bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees from MIT – all in mechanical engineering.
